Description: Founded in 1999, the Simmons Law Firm consolidated all its regional offices into one location, renovating a 1970's era, five-story building overlooking the Mississippi River in the Middletown Historic District of Alton, Illinois. Environmentally friendly finishes were used throughout the renovated facility, and a small green roof with patio access was added for employee enjoyment. The site was carefully chosen and is in close proximity to the existing major transportation infrastructure. More than 96 percent of the structure was reused, and the envelope was improved with added insulation and the use of high-efficiency glass, which greatly enhanced the energy efficiency of the existing building. Water-efficient flush and flow fixtures in the restrooms, and low-flow faucets in the kitchen and the employee break rooms were specified and installed. Vertegy helped focus the design and construction teams on providing the employees, clients and visitors with exceptional indoor environmental quality through the implementation of a strict no/low-emitting VOC policy, as well as a Construction Indoor Air Quality Management program during construction. The Simmons Office Building is Vertegy's first LEED 2009 project to achieve certification.
