Description: This private school committed to creating a sustainable master plan for its campus in the Forest Park-DeBaliviere neighborhood and with the first phase - renovating a large portion of the main school building (formerly a grocery store) and creating an addition for science labs and a library – became the first school in the Midwest to earn LEED Platinum. The renovation included updating some classrooms, creating a computer lab and a new music room and a complete overhaul of the HVAC system. Daylight, through the addition of skylights and Solatubes, was introduced to formerly dark spaces. The renovated bathroom includes low-flow fixtures, and a solar thermal array on the roof provides hot water to the science labs. A rain garden was constructed directly outside the building to collect storm water, provide habitat and act as a teaching garden for students. The building incorporates many innovative materials options, including stone-based resilient tile, reused carpeting and study carrels from the old building.
