Each building will pursue LEED certification individually and all are targeting Platinum. The buildings will accommodate separate housing for 600 male and 600 female students and will include cafeterias, gathering areas and prayer rooms. The buildings are models of integrated sustainable design and energy efficiency, incorporating regional products, recycled materials, renewable energy, reduced heat island effects, innovative stormwater and wastewater technologies, strategies to reduce dependence on automobiles, while encouraging the use of alternative modes of transportation, and exemplary indoor environmental quality. Vertegy functions as the sustainability manager for the entire project, coordinating multiple design and construction team disciplines to ensure that Qatar Foundation’s sustainability goals are met.
