Description: Hillsboro Area Hospital's mission is to positively impact the health and well-being of the communities it serves, and this mission is embodied in the hospital’s LEED Gold facility. An addition to the existing Hillsboro Hospital, the project includes emergency room areas, CT and X-ray rooms, ultrasound and mammography spaces, general exam rooms and education spaces, which are used in conjunction with the local community college. Sustainable features include an exterior site plan with extensive green, open space; highly reflective roofing materials to decrease heat island effects; low-flow plumbing fixtures; diversion of more than 75% of construction and demolition waste from landfill; low-emitting finishes, including adhesives, sealants, paints, coatings, carpet systems and composite woods; and an integrated education and outreach program to ensure patients and visitors are informed of the hospital's green features and their benefits.
