Description: Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) was a phased project, with Phase 1 incorporating large auditoriums, meeting and conference space and smaller theatres. Vertegy served as the LEED Consultant for the Phase 2 Extension of the project, which is connected to its predecessor by an elaborate concourse. The majority of Phase 2 of the facility is dedicated to the exhibition hall and a large atrium that can serve as pre-function space. A “back of house” support area for the exhibition hall is also included in the project. The second floor consists of smaller conference rooms and individual VIP rooms. A link bridge connects QNCC to Qatar Science and Technology Park. The link bridge houses a stop for Education City’s Mass Transit System, called The People Mover. The facility is approximately 39% more energy efficient than a standard baseline, incorporating demand control ventilation, heat recovery, high efficiency lighting, and a large photovoltaic array, which provides 13% of the project’s annual energy requirements. More than 80% - nearly 35,000 tons - of construction waste was diverted from landfill through recycling and reuse initiatives. The Exhibition Hall became the first LEED certified project in Qatar, earning LEED-NCv2.2 Gold on February 3, 2012.
