Description: This 46,000-square-foot commercial “fit out” did not start out being green. The original designers of this project did not consider LEED certification. However, the owners of Centocor BioLogics, Johnson & Johnson, are very committed to environmental improvements of all of their facilities. Vertegy worked with Centocor and Johnson & Johnson to provide a strategy to improve the level of sustainability in the original design and specifications to deliver a LEED certified commercial interior space. As the team began to work on applying the strategies developed by Vertegy, they found that with little effort and no additional cost, they could elevate the LEED status from Certified to Silver. Specific sustainable features include the use of low-flow fixtures and water-free urinals, and a wide range of energy conservation strategies, such as reduced lighting power density, energy-efficient lighting controls, a high performance HVAC system and ENERGY STAR® equipment and appliances.
